It was too late for the Algonquin and too early for the art society in Vienna, this art society, all these B´s and F´s and A´s and the rest of them. So the remaining solution for you was to create a world of your own, where all your familiar M´s, J´s, U´s, L´s, Sk´s and H´s could be. And we, who are now standing in front of them and rack our brains, would like to know with eagerness who and how … And it´s not just now, that I am aware of what Pessoa meant, when he wrote “I sense the time being something exceedingly painful”. That´s how you leave me, you leave us alone. We had all the time, a lot of time to ask, but we did not ask the questions. It´s regretful. It´s now “when on the forgotten woods dark winter lowers“ (Stéphane Mallarmé, November 2, 1877).
Galerie Hubert Winter shows a selection of early prints, drawings and photographs by Birgit Jürgenssen, some of them are not to unravel. The exhibition The Alphabet of Birgit Jürgenssen contains an extraordinary series of never shown coloured lithographs on handmade paper.
